An Augusta School District staff member was arrested Tuesday after being accused of sexually assaulting a child that was caught on camera, officials said.

The Augusta Police Department was contacted at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday by school administration. Authorities were given video footage by school officials that recorded the incident, which happened Monday.

“The assault was determined to have occurred late the previous day aboard a school bus,” according to a news release from the Augusta Department of Public Safety.

The staff member was arrested at a school facility, where no children were present, after the report was made. He was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, police said.

“The circumstances and evidence gathered in this case indicated this was an isolated incident,” the news release said. “No other children were present during the incident and no other victims in this case have been identified.”
