Camaro clocked going 140 mph minutes before 3-vehicle crash on Kellogg in Wichita
A Valley Center man was clocked going 140 mph minutes before causing a three-vehicle accident.
The crash occurred at 10:25 p.m. Monday along eastbound Kellogg near Washington. A 2023 Chevrolet Camaro, 2016 Hyundai Elantra and 2006 Nissan Frontier were all eastbound on Kellogg when the accident happened, a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log shows.
The Camaro was lane splitting between the central and right lane when it struck the Hyundai in the right lane. The Camaro then rolled and struck the Nissan. The Camaro came to rest on its top and the Nissan on the highway shoulder, the KHP report said.
Minutes before the crash, a KHP trooper clocked the Camaro on I-235 going 140 mph. The trooper wasn’t pursuing the vehicle at the time of the crash and didn’t see the collision occur, KHP trooper Chad Crittenden said in an email.
“It is unknown how fast the vehicle was traveling when the crash occurred on Kellogg,” Crittenden added.
The driver of the Camaro, a 21-year-old Valley Center man, was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis with minor injuries. He is expected to be charged with several traffic offenses along with driving under the influence, according to Crittenden.
The driver and passenger of the Hyundai, a 38-year-old man and 16-year-old girl, where taken to St. Francis with minor and serious injuries, respectively.
A 47-year-old man in the Nissan was not injured, the KHP said.
