5 men shot dead at 3 different Wichita locations were known to each other, police say
Five men were fatally shot at three different homes Sunday in south Wichita, police officials said.
The men are all from Wichita and their ages ranged from 39 to 68, Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Monday.
The first shooting report came in at 5:44 p.m. when someone called 911 to report an incident at a home in the 1700 block of Santa Fe. Officers arrived at the home and found a man inside dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Ford said. He was identified Tuesday as 67-year-old Anthony Stickney, who resided at that address.
At the same time, officers were doing a follow-up at a residence in the 1900 block of South Laura. They found three men inside the home, also dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Ford said.
They were identified as Anthony’s son, 42-year-old Joshua Stickney, who lived in a residence located at 1900 S Laura; 66-year-old Donald Dodge, and 55-year-old Terry Meyer. Dodge is a friend and neighbor of Joshua’s, and Meyer is Joshua’s live-in stepfather.
While canvassing the neighborhood on Laura, officers peered into the window of another home on the street and saw a man who appeared to be in distress in the living room. Police forced their way into the home and found the man dead from a gunshot wound. That neighbor was identified as 39-year-old Alan Young.
Details of what happened or what led to the shootings were not immediately available, but police believe that one of the men was the shooter who killed the other four.
“Based on current findings, we believe one of the deceased victims is the shooter,” Ford said.
Ford added that police do not believe the killings were random.
“The investigation is ongoing (and) everything we are giving you is preliminary … we do believe all the victims in this were known to each other, either as family or friends,” Ford said.
No one is in custody and police are not looking for a suspect.
