Man, 34, shot, killed at north Wichita bar after disturbance breaks out on patio
A 34-year-old man died after a shooting early Sunday at a north Wichita bar.
That man was identified as Zachary Miller of Wichita, Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Sunday.
Officers responded to a report of gunfire at a bar in the 2700 block of North Broadway. They arrived and found Miller with gunshot wounds to his torso and lower body.
Sedgwick County EMS performed lifesaving measures on Miller at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at 2:17 a.m., Ford said.
Detectives learned that prior to the shooting, there was a disturbance on the patio of Tropics, where an unidentified suspect fired several shots at Miller, a Wichita police news release said.
It is not known whether the suspect was a patron at the bar or if he was outside the bar’s patio when the shooting occurred.
The bar has closed temporarily.
“Due to a recent tragic event after closing, we will remain closed until further notice,” Tropics posted on Facebook. “Our hearts are with everyone affected, and we appreciate your understanding during this difficult time.”
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Wichita police detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers 316-267-2111.
