Wichita police are looking for a suspect who, after being kicked out of a gathering at an east Wichita apartment, returned and fired a shot through the open door, critically injuring a man.

The shooting was reported at 9:29 p.m. Thursday at an apartment in the 9200 block of East Harry.

Shortly after the call, a 44-year-old Wichita man arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He is expected to survive.

Police said Friday morning that they were still looking for the 55-year-old Wichita man who they believe did the shooting.

There were several people at the apartment when the “known suspect arrived,” police spokesperson Kris Gupilan said in an email. He was allowed in and then tried to get a female to leave the gathering with him, police said.

“When told to leave, the suspect left initially but returned shortly afterward,” Gupilan said. “Upon his return, he knocked on the door, and when the door was partially opened, the suspect pointed a handgun into the apartment and fired a single shot, striking the male victim in the upper body.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Callers can remain anonymous with Crime Stoppers.
