A multitude of crime and other problems has pushed city officials to close streets at night in and around Sim Park in midtown Wichita.

This encompasses Sim Park, Botanica, Arthur B. Sim Golf Course and Old Cow Town Museum. These areas have reported an uptick in street racing and property crimes, a Thursday City of Wichita news release said.

Starting at 9 p.m. on Oct. 1, Sim Park and the adjacent streets will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“The street closure includes all streets inside of Sim Park, including W. Murdock Ave, Amidon St. and West Sim Park Dr. Signs will be placed around the area denoting the hours of access to the park,” the release said.

Signs will be placed along Amidon Avenue and Museum Blvd, near the entrances to the park and near the west entrance of Botanica. Streets will not be closed for special events like Illuminations.

Sim Park and its golf course encompass about 157 acres of land. The Old Cow Town Museum rests on a portion of Sim Park.
