A person riding their bike Wednesday night in south Wichita died after being struck by a pickup truck that left the scene.

The incident was reported at 8:38 p.m. at the intersection of 47th Street South and south Seneca, WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford said Thursday.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and learned that a silver truck turning onto westbound 47th Street from Seneca struck the bicyclist on 47th, killing them, and then fleeing the scene, police said.

Police did not disclose the bicyclist’s identity and did not say if any arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

Three people on bicycles involved in a collision with a vehicle have died so far in 2024. There were two bicycle fatalities involving a vehicle in 2023, according to Wichita police.
