After burglary, police arrest man carrying a safe down the street

Local residents helped police solve a business burglary late Monday night.

Officers were investigating an alarm indicating a break-in shortly after 10 p.m. at Accent Bridal and Tux, 817 W. Douglas, when witnesses told them they had seen a man walking down Douglas carrying a safe, Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder said. They located the man and took him into custody.

The 53-year-old man decided he wasn’t going to jail without a struggle, however. He kicked a window out of the patrol car and then assaulted a police officer at the jail, Schroeder said.
