One man dead, 2 injured during stabbing at party Saturday in Garden City
One man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a stabbing Saturday in Garden City.
Xavier Castaneda, 20, died in the stabbing in which a man and woman were arrested, the Garden Police Department said Sunday in a news release.
Officers were sent at 2:45 a.m. Saturday to the stabbing call in the 2600 block Chainey Street. Police found three people, including Castaneda, with stab wounds.
All three victims were taken to St. Catherine Hospital with critical injuries. Castaneda later succumbed to his injuries, according to the news release.
The two other stabbing victims were a man and woman from Garden City who’s ages ranged from 19-21. Their medical conditions are unknown, Garden City public safety administrative assistant Erinn Reyes said in an email.
Detectives later traced two suspects tied to the stabbing: A 20-year-old and 21-year-old woman.
“Through a collaborative investigation by the GCPD and Finney County Sheriff’s Office, it was revealed that a fight broke out during a party, and [the male suspect] stabbed the three victims,” the GCPD said.
Both suspects fled the scene before officers arrived and were later found in Hugoton, roughly 70 miles southwest of Garden City.
The relationship among the victims and suspects and what the fight was over is unclear.Police said it remains under investigation Sunday.
The man was booked into the Finney County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, multiple counts of attempted second-degree murder and multiple counts of aggravated battery. The woman was booked on suspicion of felony obstruction, the news release said.
Garden City is roughly 3 1/2 hours west of Wichita, in Finney County.
