Man arrested in case of baby found in a Wichita canal. What we know so far.
A 34-year-old man was arrested after an infant girl was found alive Tuesday in a canal in the area of Mount Vernon Street and Interstate 135 in Wichita.
The man was booked into the Sedgwick County jail Wednesday morning on suspicion of aggravated endangering of a child, aggravated battery and parole violation, jail records show.
He has not been charged.
The man had a warrant out for his arrest through the Kansas Department of Corrections. KDOC records show he was released from prison and has been on parole since February.
Officers were sent at 1:33 p.m. to a welfare check call in the area of I-135 and Pawnee Street for a report of a child in a canal. Police, with the help of the Wichita Fire Department, found the 11-month-old girl, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.
The girl was taken to a hospital and is in police protective custody. She is OK and had no reported injuries, Gupilan said Wednesday morning.

KDOC records show the 34-year-old man who was arrested has prior convictions for assault, aggravated assault, theft, aggravated burglary, distribution/possession of drugs and possession of weapon by a felon. All the convictions occurred in Sedgwick County in 2015 and 2016.
