A 19-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal Sunday morning hit-and-run crash, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.

Officers responded at 3:16 a.m. to a collision call at Central and McLean. They found a dark-colored Saturn that had been involved in a crash, according to Gupilan.

Jaz Brooks, 28, of Wichita, was riding in the Saturn’s passenger seat and was pronounced deceased. The driver had non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives learned that a black Ford F-150 had collided with the Saturn on its passenger side and fled the scene. Police found the suspect and vehicle hours later.

The 19-year-old woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of fatality hit-and-run, Gupilan said.

The investigation into the crash continues and anyone with information on it is encouraged to call WPD detectives at 316-350-3686 and Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

This marks the 18 traffic fatality for the year, according to police.
