Wichita teen gets ‘acid poured on her face’ during fight; police look for 3 teen suspects
Wichita police said they are looking for three suspects — all females in their teens — after a fight that left an 18-year-old woman with second-degree burns reportedly from acid being thrown on her face and neck.
Photos posted online by the victim and her family show swelling and burns on her face.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Wichita woman “overcome Acid Attack Trauma.” The fundraiser says insurance won’t cover the cost of cosmetic surgeries she may need. The victim was able to fully open her eyes on Wednesday, according to a social media post she made early in the morning. The victim and family did not respond to a request to comment.
Police are looking for a 16-year-old girl from Topeka, a 17-year-old girl from Wichita and an 18-year-old woman from Wichita, Capt. Aaron Moses said Wednesday morning.
Police were called around noon Sunday to the 400 block of North Dodge. A 911 caller said her “sister got acid poured on her face,” according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications scanner traffic.
The victim arrived at a hospital with burns “believed to be caused by a suspect throwing an acidic liquid on the victim during a physical fight,” Moses said.
One of the first responders said they found an article of apparel in the street that was warm as they tried to put it in a bag.
“I’m thinking it’s the acid on my hand,” she said.
