An 81-year-old man has died after a house fire engulfed his Haysville home on Wednesday, a fire official said.

Jackie Wilson, of Haysville, died at Ascension Via Christi’s burn unit Wednesday afternoon from injuries sustained in the fire, Sedgwick County fire marshal Bradley Crisp said.

The Sedgwick County District Fire 1 responded to a mobile house fire at 9:46 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Bernice Ave in Haysville. Firefighters found the home engulfed in flames and Wilson outside, according to Crisp.

Wilson was able to get out of the home and was taken to a hospital.

Wilson’s son, who lives next door, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and intense heat.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Crisp said.
