A 19-year-old Wichita man has been arrested following a car crashing into the fence and multiple headstones Sunday at Highland Cemetery.

Police responded at 12:43 a.m. to a traffic crash in the area of Ninth Street and Hillside in northeast Wichita, WPD spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.

Officers arrived at the cemetery and found a Chevrolet Camaro that struck and damaged the fence and multiple headstones on the cemetery grounds, according to Gupilan.

“Speed and alcohol appear to have contributed to the crash,” police said.

The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless driving, Gupilan said.
