A Wyoming man who tried to rob a south Wichita massage parlor was fatally shot by a 71-year-old employee who is recovering after being shot multiple times, police Capt. Aaron Moses said during Thursday.

The shooting happened at 3:32 p.m. Wednesday at Beijing Massage in the 2700 block of Boulevard Plaza.

Robexy Figueroa, 44, of Wyoming, died at the scene after being shot multiple times. The employee, a Wichita man, underwent surgery at a hospital. He’s expected to survive, Moses said.

“At this preliminary stage it is believed that the deceased male was attempting to commit an armed robbery of the business and there was an exchange of gunfire,” he said.

There was another homicide Wednesday evening, bringing the city’s total homicides this year to at least 21. There were 12 at this time last year.
