A 45-year-old Wichita man is scheduled for sentencing this summer on more than two dozen felonies involving rape and indecent liberties with underage girls, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Jurors convicted David Willy Mendoza on Monday. His trial started on April 29.

“Thank you to the citizens of Sedgwick County who served on the jury in Judge Bruce Brown’s court who Monday found David Mendoza guilty of 25 felony crimes,” the DA’s office posted on X.

Mendoza was charged in October 2022 with 13 counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, six counts of rape, four counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count each of kidnapping and criminal sodomy, court records show. Prosecutors say he sexually abused five girls across multiple incidents from 2010 to 2022. Many of the victims were younger than 14 when they were abused.

Mendoza pleaded not guilty in the case. He faces the possibility of life in prison on several of the charges when he is sentenced on June 21. He remained in the Sedgwick County Jail on Wednesday.
