A 17-year-old boy was charged Monday in the March 21 killing at a smoke shop near 21st and Grove. The boy was charged with first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

A second person has been arrested in connection with the March 21 killing outside a smoke shop near 21st and Grove, according to arrest records released Wednesday morning.

Tyree Javon Jackson was booked into Sedgwick County Jail at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday. The 41-year-old Wichita man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm in the killing of 20-year-old Jaden Wilson of Wichita. He was arrested in the 3000 block of North Longfellow.

Police previously said a 17-year-old Wichita boy, who turned himself in to the jail the night of the shooting, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm. Police had not mentioned a second suspect.

According to Sedgwick County 911 Emergency Communications scanner traffic, police who were flagged down about the shooting saw a man running south wearing black.

“Was holding his waistband,” an officer said, adding people are “telling me his name may be Tyree Jackson.”

Police did not immediately reply Wednesday about the additional arrest.

After the arrest of the teen, police spokesperson Andrew Ford said in a news release that “a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect were acquainted and involved in an ongoing dispute, the specifics of which remain under investigation.”

At that time, Ford said it was still being investigated if Wilson, who died at the scene, was shot inside of a Buick and if it was his vehicle. Wilson was found outside of a Buick, which had multiple bullet holes in the windshield, with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

“A witness in the vehicle at the time of the incident was able to provide officers with details that quickly led to the quick identification of the suspect,” he said.

This is at least the city’s 14th homicide so far this year, according to police reports. There were seven at this time last year.
