Two people are dead and one person is in custody after a shooting that occurred Saturday morning in east Wichita.

Police responded shortly before 9:30 a.m. to a shooting call in the 7300 block of East Kellogg. They arrived at the Blue Way Inn & Suites right off Kellogg. They found a 35-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man. Both had been shot, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.

The woman died at the scene of the shooting. The man was taken to a local hospital by Sedgwick County EMS where he died from his injuries, Gupilan said.

A “young child” was found at the scene of the shooting unharmed, he said.

“The child was uninjured,” Gupilan said. “WPD is providing resources to make sure the well-being of the child is taken care of as far as medically and psychologically.”

The motive behind the shooting and the relationship between all individuals involved in the incident is being investigated.
