Police identify woman, 26, shot, killed in southeast Wichita; boyfriend arrested
A 26-year-old woman died after being shot at a southeast Wichita apartment complex during a domestic violence incident, Wichita Police spokesperson Lt. Aaron Moses said.
Officers responded to a shooting call shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday at the Garden Pines Apartments in the 8100 block of East Harry and found Audreanna Hidalgo of Wichita with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene, Moses added.
Hidalgo lived in the apartment complex, Moses said in an email.
Authorities have arrested a 38-year-old man in Junction City, roughly two hours northwest of Wichita. The man is in custody in connection with what police are calling “a case of Intimate Partner Violence,” according to a Wichita police news release.
Moses said the suspect is thought to be the victim’s boyfriend.
Wichita police are working with Junction City authorities to have the man returned to Wichita.
“The suspect in this case was on pre-trial supervision on a charge of Aggravated Battery,” the news release read. “There is no documented history between this suspect and victim through the Wichita Police Department.”
Moses said the case for the aggravated battery charge occurred in Wichita.
This is the city’s tenth homicide so far this year, according to reports from police. There were seven at this time last year
