Wichita man arrested on suspicion of murder in fatal downtown shooting
A 37-year-old Wichita man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting downtown Tuesday, according to arrest records released Thursday morning.
Yancy Hermosillo was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of South Ida, less than a mile from the killing Tuesday in the 900 block of South Market. He was also arrested on suspicion of interference with police.
Police responded at 5:12 a.m. Tuesday and found a 35-year-old man shot in his lower body. The man died at a hospital.
Police have not released the victim’s name and did not immediately respond to questions for more details about the incident.
Hermosillo’s mugshot shows he has bruising on his face.
Hermosillo has four convictions in Kansas, all in Finney County, from incidents in 2006 and 2007, Kansas Department of Corrections records show. The convictions are for aggravated interference with parental custody, criminal threat and two counts of domestic battery. He spent time in prison from 2008 to 2010.
This appears to be the city’s second homicide of the year, according to information released by police.
