Police found a woman thought to be in her 20s shot in the leg Wednesday in the lobby of a west Wichita hotel, Lt. Keith Fort said.

At 12:33 p.m., a shooting was reported at Economy Hotel Plus+ at 5805 W. Kellogg. Police and the fire marshal, who were following up on regularly done inspections, were already in the parking lot when the call happened, Fort said.

A suspect took off as police were still trying to figure out what happened.

EMS listed her in critical condition when taking her to the hospital. Fort, at around 2:15 p.m., said her injuries were serious.

At that time, Fort said police were still reviewing surveillance video in the area. He said it was unclear whether the Wichita woman was shot in a hotel room or hallway and if she had been staying there.

Fort said there have been “more than the average amount of calls” when asked about problems at the hotel.
