Man gets probation in case of boy who tested positive for cocaine
A man accused of abusing a 3-year-old boy who tested positive for cocaine after being in his care was sentenced to probation for aggravated child endangerment and drug possession, according to Sedgwick County District Court records.
An emergency room doctor who examined the boy after his mother found him unresponsive in a car on Jan. 31 said the child either had ingested the drug or had prolonged exposure to it, according to a police affidavit filed in 23-year-old Auntray Dunn’s criminal case. The doctor also thought the child had suffered physical abuse, the document said.
Wichita police officers who searched the downtown Wichita motel room where Dunn, the child and the child’s mother were staying found powdered cocaine atop an entertainment center and two sandwich baggies filled with crack cocaine in the freezer compartment of a mini refrigerator. The boy’s mother – Dunn’s girlfriend – left her son in Dunn’s care for an hour and a half while she visited with two “customers” solicited through a sexually suggestive advertisement she posted online, the affidavit said.
A doctor told police the cocaine could have killed the boy, the affidavit said.
Prosecutors originally charged Dunn, of Independence, with child abuse and cocaine possession but he pleaded guilty to amended counts in May, court records show. He was sentenced last week.
