A 42-year-old Wichita man has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in a fatal shooting early Thursday at an apartment in north Wichita, officials said.

Deniq Ingram was found shot in her upper torso when police responded at 12:41 a.m. at Cross Creek Apartments and Townhomes, 7750 E 32nd Street North, according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications scanner traffic and police. That’s near K-96 and Rock.

The 23-year-old Wichita woman was unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

“The suspect was on the scene and taken into custody,” the police department’s public information unit said in a news release just before 12:30 p.m.

The release did not say the relationship between the victim and suspect, who lives at the apartment, or what led to the shooting. Police spokesperson Andrew Ford said any additional questions would need to be submitted through a open records request, which typically takes the department multiple days to answer.

The news release indicated that the killing was domestic-violence related.

“Domestic violence is not a private matter; it’s a crime, and it’s everyone’s concern,” the release said.

This is at least the city’s 45th homicide this year. There were 35 for all of 2022.
