A 15-year-old Wichita boy who was shot last week in north Wichita has died, according to police and family.

Gabriel Aiden Jimenez died Monday afternoon at the hospital, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said. He had been found shot in the abdomen when officers responded to a shooting call at 12:18 a.m. Dec. 13 at the intersection of 15th Street North and Poplar.

A 14-year-old Wichita boy was shot in his right upper leg. Both victims were taken by EMS to the hospital.

Five people were shot at while walking, leaving the two wounded, an officer wrote in a police report.

Rebolledo said police are looking for a “person of interest” in the case.

Jimenez died of a “heart attack that was caused” by being shot, a family member said on social media. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with burial costs. The fundraiser can be found at shorturl.at/depwG.

This is at least the city’s 44th homicide so far this year. There were 33 at this time last year.
