Two Wichita teens were taken to a hospital after being found shot on the street in north Wichita just after midnight Wednesday.

Officers responded around 12:20 a.m. to a shooting call at the intersection of 15th Street North and Poplar Avenue. They found a 14-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his right upper leg and another 15-year-old who had been shot in his abdomen, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said.

Both boys were taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both underwent surgery and are in stable condition, a WPD news release said.

It is not known whether the two teens knew each other or what prompted the shooting. Rebolledo said police are looking for a suspect involved in the shooting.

“Detectives are still working to fully determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting,” Rebolledo said.

Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call WPD detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
