Police arrest man in Texas after girlfriend is shot to death in southeast Wichita home
A Wichita man has been arrested in Texas in connection with the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Brittnee Wicker on Sunday in southeast Wichita.
Carlos Anderson-Honeycutt, 26, was arrested near Brownsville, nearly 900 miles south of Wichita, on Tuesday, Wichita Police Department spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said.
That same day, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office was presented evidence that led to charging Anderson-Honeycutt with first-degree murder, a WPD news release said.
Wicker and Anderson-Honeycutt were in a relationship, and a preliminary investigation indicated that the incident was a result of domestic violence, Rebolledo said in an email.
Police responded at 6:18 p.m. on Sunday to a shooting call in the 2300 block of South Belmont and found Wicker with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene from her injuries, The Eagle reported.
The Wichita Police Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Control were involved in the investigation and arrest.
“The Wichita Police Department recognizes the severity of Domestic Violence and its impact on our community,” the release said “We are dedicated to serving all members of our community and ensuring access to resources for those in need.”
