Worker sentenced for battering disabled resident at Newton facility, prosecutor says
A Harvey County judge last week ordered a 28-year-old Newton man to serve more than four years in prison for harming a disabled resident at a facility where he worked, according to a news release from Harvey County Attorney Heather L. Figger.
Michael Lee McJimsey was sentenced to 50 months by District Judge Jason Lane. McJimsey pleaded guilty on Aug. 17 to mistreating a dependent adult. Figger, in the release, said McJimsey battered the victim while he was employed at Heart Land Supports LLC. The organization’s Facebook page says it provides day and residential supports for adults with intellectual disabilities. It’s located at 313 Muse St. in Newton, the Facebook page says.
After prison, McJimsey must serve two years of post-release supervision, Figger said in the release.
“Post release requires the Kansas Department of Corrections to supervise McJimsey for the 24 months after his release,” she said.
“McJimsey is subject to conditions of release set by the Kansas Department of Corrections. If he violates those conditions, he could be sent back to prison.”
Lane handed down the sentence on Oct. 20.
