Woman, 27, sentenced for rear-ending motorcycle rider in April road rage incident
A 27-year-old Wichita woman was sentenced Monday to two years of probation for a hit-and-run road rage collision that injured a motorcycle rider on April 4.
Tkeyah N. Hurd pleaded guilty on Sept. 13 to one count of aggravated battery for intentionally rear-ending the 62-year-old man with a Chrysler 200 in the area of Harry and McLean. Wichita police have said Hurd got upset when she nearly struck the motorcycle rider after he turned onto northbound Broadway from the inside lane of westbound Pawnee while she was turning the same direction from the outside lane.
Police have said Hurd rammed the motorcycle from behind, knocking the man to the ground, several minutes after they had a brief verbal argument. Officers arrested Hurd in the 1400 block of South Wichita, near Harry and Broadway, after she drove off. The crash happened around 11:50 a.m.
Hurd’s probation carries an underlying prison term of 11 months, which she might have to serve if she doesn’t follow the conditions of her probation. Those include holding a full-time job, attending in-patient treatment and going to alcohol or drug recovery meetings three times a week for at least 90 days.
Hurd must also pay $1,215.64 in restitution to the victim, mostly to cover an insurance deductible, Sedgwick County District Judge Bruce Brown ordered. The sentence follows Hurd’s plea agreement.
