Police looking for driver of SUV that killed pedestrian in south Wichita
Police are asking for help finding the driver of a dark-colored SUV that fatally hit a pedestrian Saturday in south Wichita.
Paul Piepmeier, 49, of Wichita was found unconscious and critically injured at about 2:10 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Broadway, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said Tuesday in a news release. Piepmeier was taken to the hospital where he later died.
“The investigation revealed Piepmeier entered the street when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV driven by an unknown man traveling southbound on Broadway,” Rebolledo said. “The investigation of the circumstances of the collision is ongoing.”

Police said this is the 26th fatal collision and 26th fatality this year. This is at least the eighth pedestrian killed.
