Passerby finds man’s body at a park east of Newton, authorities say

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after the body of a man was found in a park east of Newton on Sunday.

Authorities were sent to Harvey County East Park at 12:45 p.m. after a passerby found and reported the body, a Harvey County news release said.

“The body was found on park property west of North East Lake Road near Northeast 12th Street,” the release said.

The body was found on a dry portion of the lake bed. The man’s identity and the cause of death have not been released.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

A Harvey County spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for additional details regarding the incident which remains under investigation.

East Park is roughly 1,300 acres and is popular for fishing, swimming and boating, according to the park’s website. It is roughly 33 miles north of Wichita.
