Police look for suspect in west Wichita killing while victim’s family sets up fundraiser
Wichita police are asking for help finding a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager early Sunday at a west Wichita apartment complex.
Another person also was grazed by a bullet.
Police are looking for Louis Jackson in the death of 19-year-old Zylez Qeshawn James. He was found shot multiple times when police responded to a shooting at 2:15 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Memory Lane, near West Street and Zoo Boulevard.
James was not unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A car was towed from the scene as part of the evidence in the case.
“We will not be releasing any additional information regarding the circumstances of the incident at this time,” Lt. Aaron Moses said Wednesday afternoon.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Jackson or on the shooting can call detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Callers can remain anonymous with Crime Stoppers.
James “loved ... his family & friends and most importantly his year old baby girl that will never get the chance to see him again,” according to a fundraiser set up by his mother to help cover funeral costs.
James’ brother posted on Facebook Sunday photos and videos of about 30 people at a candelight vigil where balloons were released.
“Another violent, senseless act,” he wrote. “My brother brought joy to everybody life, definitely was the life of the party wherever we went ... This hit home different, I’m confused, hurt and still don’t think this is real. My brother is GONEEE ... They left my niece with no daddy y’all but I promise she will never want for NOTHINGG.”
