Four robbed at gunpoint at apartment complex

Four people were robbed at gunpoint at an apartment complex early Sunday morning, police said.

A man knocked on the door of an apartment in the 6600 block of East Harry shortly before 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. He asked for a particular individual, but was told by the woman who answered the knock that the person didn’t live there and may not have ever lived there.

The visitor then forced his way inside and pulled out a gun, Espinoza said. A second man followed him inside. They ordered the three women and one man to the floor and stole electronics worth an estimated $2,500.

One of the suspects hit the male victim in the head with his gun, and one of the suspects sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman inside the apartment, Espinoza said. They then left.

The victims “do not appear to know the suspects,” Espinoza said.

“Any time someone is sexually assaulted, it’s a horrible incident,” Espinoza said.

It’s also concerning that the incident escalated, he said, in that the suspects appeared to enter the apartment with one thing in mind and then committed additional crimes.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the investigations section at 316-268-4646 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
