One person was critically injured after a chase involving deputies ended in a crash in a neighborhood, followed by shots being fired on Tuesday at the Sedgwick and Butler county line.

Butler County Emergency Communications said the chase started shortly before 3 p.m. at Butler Road and SW 60th Street and ended in the neighborhood near the intersection of Kellogg and 159th streets.

Butler County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted a stolen vehicle and a chase ensued. Deputies used spikes to stop the vehicle where it crashed in the neighborhood, Butler County sheriff Monty Hughey told an Eagle reporter.

The suspect fled the vehicle and deputies chased him on foot. Shots were fired and one person was shot and is in critical condition, according to Hughey.

Authorities did not say if if the suspect or a deputy was shot. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said the Kansas Bureau of Investigations is leading the investigation.

All together, the Sedgwick and Butler County Sheriff’s Office along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation were at the scene near Andover.
