Updated: Police identify two men killed in separate pedestrian vs vehicle wrecks
Updated 5 p.m. Friday:
Police have identified the men killed in two two separate accidents as 68-year-old Michael Llamas of Wichita and 55-year-old Jerry Parks of Goddard.
Parks was on a bicycle when he was hit by a 32-year-old woman driving a Ford Mustang. Parks came out from behind a “shrubbery line” from the north side of the road and headed to the south before being hit, Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said in a news release.
Llamas died at the scene after he was hit by a 24-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer north on West. The accident was reported to police at 9:20 p.m.
Original 11:15 a.m. Friday:
Two men, one walking and one on a bicycle, died in separate accidents with vehicles Thursday night, Wichita police said Friday morning.
Those are the city’s 11th and 12th fatal accidents this year, according to police records. Eagle data shows the city had 18 fatal accidents with 21 fatalities at this time last year.
Police have not yet released the names of the victims.
In both cases, the driver stayed on scene and there were no signs of speeding or impairment, according to Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo.
The accident with the bicycle was reported at 6:30 p.m. at Dugan and Taft. The man was unresponsive when he was taken by EMS to a hospital, where he died.
Rebolledo said it appears the man jumped on the bicycle and went into the road before being hit.
The other fatal accident happened while a man was crossing from west to east on West Street near Murdock and was hit by a vehicle, Rebolledo said. It happened just south of Murdock. There doesn’t appear to be a crosswalk in that area.
Police are expected to release more information later today.
