Man shot in leg, critically injured in north Wichita, official says

Anna Crane had just arrived home when a man was shot near her home on Tuesday.
Crane, who is studying to be a medical assistant and then a licensed practical nurse, waited to make sure the man didn’t have a gun. She then ran out with a towel and made a tourniquet around his leg.
The man’s breathing slowed and then stopped, Crane said, before an arriving officer performed CPR.
Police responded to the shooting around 2:53 p.m. at 18th and Chautauqua.
When the officer became tired, she jumped in to continue the CPR. She said he started to breathe again before EMS took him away.
The 25-year-old was shot in the left leg, according to a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor. He was taken by EMS to the hospital in critical condition.
Police later determined the victim was 28.
Afterward, articles of clothing dotted the intersection where the man had been shot. There were spots of blood just north of the intersection.
Sgt. David Inkelaar said around 3:50 p.m. that police didn’t have a suspect in custody.
