Okla. man pleads guilty after heroin found hidden in trunk of car

A 26-year-old Oklahoma man found with heroin hidden in the trunk of a car pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal drug charge.

Nestor D. Duenas-Vazquez of Glenpool is set for sentencing Jan. 5 on one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. He faces five to 40 years in federal prison.

A Wichita police officer found 496 grams – more than a pound – of heroin packaged and hidden in a bucket of detergent in the car’s trunk during a traffic stop on June 26, Grissom said. Duenas-Vazquez, a passenger in the car, was traveling back to Oklahoma from Denver after obtaining the drugs, Grissom said.

Another defendant convicted in the case, Kyndal Upson, is set for sentencing Dec. 8, Grissom said.
