Trash company refunds payments after DA investigates claims it did not pick up trash
A former local trash service provider is no longer under investigation for complaints of not picking up trash from paying customers in Sedgwick County after it provided refunds to those customers.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office launched an investigation in September into Best Value Services after receiving a dozen complaints from consumers, a DA’s office news release said.
The complaints were regarding “prepaid trash services the consumers reported they were not receiving in Sedgwick County,” according to the release.
All 12 consumer complaints requested refunds for the services they did not receive.
Best Value Trash fully cooperated with the months-long investigation. An investigator with the DA’s office verified that the trash company voluntarily gave refunds to all the affected customers and a new trash service provider offered a free month of trash service to customers in Haysville, according to the news release.
The reported disputes were typically less than $200 per consumer, the release said.
The DA’s office determined that the “voluntary actions by Best Value Trash sufficiently addressed our concerns,” according to the release. “Therefore our office has closed the investigation into this matter.”
Best Value Services is no longer in business. It’s unclear exactly when they stopped operating, DA’s office spokesperson Dan Dillon said in an email.
