Car involved in crash at I-235 and Kellogg was going 136 mph, police say
Wichita police say a car was traveling over 130 mph before rear-ending another vehicle on Kellogg on Sunday.
The collision was reported around 1:45 a.m. in the area of I-235 and Kellogg. Officers found an overturned Jeep and Dodge Challenger that had been involved in the incident, police said in a social media post.
Two people who had been in the Jeep were taken to a hospital with severe but non-life threatening injuries, the post said.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the Challenger leave on foot before police arrived. Witnesses added that the Challenger was going at speeds over 100 mph before it rear-ended the Jeep, police said.
Detectives from WPD’s traffic unit collected data from the Challenger and learned that the car was going 136 MPH before crashing, according to police.
Police were able to find the driver of the Challenger after officers responded to an EMS call at a motel on west Kellogg. Dean was not injured in the crash, the post said.
Rakim Dean, 28, of Wichita was arrested and faces charges of two counts of aggravated battery, leaving the scene of a serious injury collision and speeding, according to police.
