Nearly 16 years after a woman was raped in southeast Wichita, police arrest a suspect
A man accused of raping a woman in 2007 in a southeast Wichita home was arrested Monday.
Ted Foy, 52, of Augusta was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of two counts of rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and aggravated criminal sodomy, police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said in a news release.
The arrest stems from a case on Nov. 13, 2007 when authorities responded to a call in the 1900 block of S. Tara Falls in southeast Wichita at around 11 p.m., the release said.
A man had broken into the home and sexually assaulted a woman. Detectives were not able to identify and arrest a suspect at the time, the release said.
Recently, Wichita police detectives were able to identify Foy as the suspect through DNA testing, in collaboration with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations Cold Case Team and the Sedgwick County Regional Science Forensic Center, Gupilan said.
“WPD investigators were able to utilize genealogical investigative techniques to assist them in identifying a potential suspect,” the release said.
The department’s domestic intervention and violence reduction team arrested Foy.
