Sedgwick County firefighter arrested, accused of sexual battery, county says
A 23-year-old Sedgwick County firefighter has been placed on paid leave after being arrested Wednesday on three counts of aggravated sexual battery, Sedgwick County spokesperson Nicole Gibbs said.
Michael Darton Cowherd remained in Sedgwick County Jail on Thursday morning in lieu of a $75,000 bond. The Clearwater man started with Sedgwick County Fire District 1 in April 2019.
Cowherd is suspended pending any criminal charges by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office and an internal investigation.
