Police: Man fires flare during argument near Central, I-235

A 32-year-old man punctuated a disagreement Tuesday afternoon, Wichita police said, by firing a flare gun at his neighbor.

The dispute occurred at about 2 p.m. in the 700 block of North Doris, Lt. James Espinoza said. That’s near Central and I-235.

The suspect walked into the neighbor’s house and started arguing with a woman who lives there, Espinoza said. He wanted to know where the couple’s daughter was.

He was ordered out of the house, and as he was leaving he turned around in the front yard, pulled out a flare gun and fired it at the 57-year-old man who lives there, Espinoza said.

The flare missed the older man, bounced off the house and landed in some grass, igniting a small fire, Espinoza said. Police are still looking for the suspect in the case.
