Dietzman appointed as Sedgwick County’s first female undersheriff
Brenda Dietzman has been promoted to the rank of sheriff’s colonel and appointed to the position of undersheriff, Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter announced Wednesday.
She is the first female undersheriff of Sedgwick County, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Dietzman was promoted from captain and had commanded the patrol division. She replaces Danny Bardezbain, who recently retired.
“This is an incredible opportunity,” Dietzman said Wednesday after Easter announced her promotion. As undersheriff, she oversees jail operations. Recruitment and retention of jail deputies is one of her top priorities, Dietzman said. Serving mentally ill inmates is another priority, she said.
Dietzman started with the Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 1990. She has received the sheriff’s Michael Reele Award and has been a Wichita Crime Commission Officer of the Year.
She said that some of her key experience comes from working in community policing for eight years.
