The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman killed in a shooting Saturday morning as 51-year-old Christina Bingham of rural Augusta, according to undersheriff Daimon Cundiff.

Robert Martindale II, 56, of rural Augusta, has been booked into the Butler County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, Cundiff said in an email.

Deputies responded to the shooting call around 6:47 a.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of SW 163rd St. in rural Augusta. The person who called 911 told emergency communications that a family member “had shot another another individual in the home,” an earlier news release said.

“The victim and the suspect were the only two individuals inside the home when there was some kind of disturbance resulting in Martindale shooting Bingham,” Cundiff told The Eagle.

Deputies tried to make contact with the two inside but were unsuccessful. The Butler County’s tactical team was called in to assist, the release says.

The tactical team was able to get inside and found Bingham suffering from a gunshot wound. Martindale II was found and taken into custody, the release said.

The relationship between Martindale II and Bingham has not been reported by authorities. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately reply to an email Tuesday afternoon.
