A man killed in north Wichita on Thursday was shot multiple times, apparently during a gambling party, Wichita police say.

Emergency dispatchers got a call from inside the residence at about 10:20 p.m., Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said.

Officers arrived minutes later to find the house empty of people, except for the 36-year-old victim.

He was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 11:25 p.m., Ojile said.

The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of North Minnesota, Ojile said.

Police are trying to find out who was at the gathering. They have interviewed some people they think were there, and hope to find more, Ojile said.

No weapon was found at the house, he said.
