Police have identified the 52-year-old Wichita man who was killed by an SUV while crossing the street Friday night in south Wichita.

Theodore Nance, who was crossing the street with a lawnmower, died at the scene, Wichita police spokesperson Trevor Macy said in a news release Saturday. The 62-year-old woman driving the SUV was not injured. Macy said police don’t believe speed or impairment were factors in the crash.

Police were called to the wreck at 10:18 p.m. near 58th and Broadway.

“Investigators learned Nance was crossing Broadway, not in a crosswalk, from Southwest to Northeast with a lawn mower when he was struck by an SUV traveling Northbound,” Macy said.

Macy said Nance does not live in that area.

This is the city’s 20th fatal wreck and the 23rd fatality this year, Macy said.
