Wichita man sentenced in case where underage Missouri girl was brought to KS for sex
A 22-year-old Wichita man will serve 18 months of probation for his role in a case involving a 14-year-old Missouri runaway brought to Kansas two years ago for sex.
Devin Michael Miller pleaded guilty in May to one count of contributing to a child’s misconduct or deprivation, ahead of his scheduled trial. On Tuesday, Sedgwick County District Judge David Dahl sentenced him as expected to probation, with an underlying prison term of 10 months, courtroom staff said.
Miller could be ordered to serve the underlying prison term if he fails to follow the conditions of his probation, which includes a ban on contacting the victim and unsupervised contact with children younger than 16, court records show.
Authorities arrested Miller and another Wichita man, Kyle Robert Lee Ellery, on Jan. 17, 2020, after an FBI tip led them to the underage runaway girl at a house in the 2700 block of North Amidon. Authorities at the time said Ellery had talked with the girl over social media for several months before he drove to St. James, Missouri, picked her up on Jan. 11, 2020, and brought her back to Kansas for “purposes of inappropriate relations.” Prosecutors accused both men of having illicit contact with the girl.
Ellery, 21, is currently serving an 87-month federal prison sentence in the case. He pleaded guilty last year in federal court to one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
