Wichita police arrest man in fatal hit-and-run accident on west side
A 31-year-old Wichita man was arrested at his home Wednesday in connection with the death of a man found on a west Wichita road last month, records show.
Latrell Antoine Thompson was arrested on suspicion of felony failure to stop at an accident that resulted in a death. He was booked into Sedgwick County Jail early Thursday.
Officers saw Thompson, who was identified as being involved in the death of 49-year-old Kurt Krueger, going into his home Wednesday in the 7700 block of West Quail.
Occupants of the home were “uncooperative and would not allow officers to enter,” police spokesperson Trevor Macy said in a news release. Officers and detectives surrounded the home. Eventually, three people came out but Thompson still stayed inside, Macy said.
“After several announcements from officers to exit the house, Thompson eventually did so and was taken into custody,” Macy said.
In a phone interview, Macy said police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
At around 2:10 a.m. on May 1, police responded to a report of a man down in the street in the 7900 block of West Cottontail, about one-fifth of a mile from Thompson’s house. Police found Krueger unconscious and not breathing. He died at the scene.
“The investigation revealed that Krueger was walking in the neighborhood where he lives, approximately 20-30 minutes before his body was found,” police spokesperson Chad Ditch said in a May 2 news release, which included a photo of a car police suspected to be involved in the incident.
Last week, Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County upped the reward for a tip leading to an arrest in the case to $7,500 after an anonymous donor offered an additional $5,000.
