New Year’s Eve nuisance complaint? Don’t dial 911. Call this Wichita number instead

The Wichita Eagle

Sedgwick County government is again asking citizens to dial its dedicated non-emergency line instead of calling 911 to report party complaints, excessive noise, fireworks and other nuisances on New Year’s Eve.

The line will be open from 9 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday. Call 316-290-1011 during that time to make any nuisance report or complaint that doesn’t involve a threat to someone’s life or property, the county said in a news release.

Anyone with an emergency, should still call or text 911.

The county established the non-emergency line years ago to ensure anyone calling 911 to report a crime, safety situation or medical emergency could quickly reach a live person. Historically, the line has been active during high nuisance call times, like the July 4 and New Year’s Eve holidays.

Anyone who calls 911 with a non-emergency complaint while the non-emergency line is open will be transferred to it, the county said.
