One person killed, one hospitalized in north Wichita accident; other driver arrested
One person is dead and another hospitalized after the car they were in was struck by another driver Thursday night in north Wichita, causing the car to flip, according to Wichita police spokesperson Paul Cruz.
Police allege speed and alcohol caused Garett Michael Meyers to crash the Ford F-250 he drove into the back of a Kia Optima occupied by two Wichitans. The collision, which was reported at 8:08 p.m., caused the Optima to flip.
The driver of the Optima, 65-year-old Leroy Grim of Wichita, was headed west and at a light at 13th and Hillside when the wreck occurred. He died at the scene. A 67-year-old Wichita woman in the car was seriously injured, but is in stable condition, Cruz said.
Meyers was arrested at the scene, Cruz said.
The 37-year-old Andover man was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery, driving under the influence second conviction, tampering with an ignition interlock device, speeding and driving with a suspended, canceled or revoked license, records show.
