Police: Man chased girl walking to school near Linwood Park
After an 11-year-old girl refused a man’s offer of candy on her walk to school, he reportedly chased her a short distance as she ran home, a Wichita police official said Tuesday.
Lt. Randy Reynolds gave this account: Just after 8 a.m. Monday, the girl was walking near Linwood Park, in the 1900 block of South Kansas, when a man sitting on a bench offered her candy. She refused, and he chased her a short distance on foot; she ran home and told her aunt, who called 911.
The suspect was described as a white male, age 50 to 60, 6 feet tall with a thin build and having a short, white beard. He wore a blue ball cap, blue T-shirt with white letters and blue jeans.
He was driving a full-size, four-door, dark-blue pickup.
If anyone sees someone matching the description, Reynolds said, they should call 911 or Crime Stoppers, 267-2111, or the Exploited and Missing Child Unit, 316-337-6552.
